Serena Williams & Venus Williams: Making History Together in Pro Women’s Tennis

Venus is a year older and had been a Grand Slam title winner for singles seven times, while Serena had twenty one Grand Slam wins in singles. Between 2001 and 2009, the sisters usually matched against each other in singles. In fact, they had battled against each other in eight finals of Grand Slam. Between 2000 and 2010, however, the sisters have collect nine Wimbledon titles in singles with Venus winning five and Serena, four. Winning the doubles for the Women’s Australian Open in 2010 marks the duo as the 5th pair who have complete the Grand Slam Career Doubles. Years after, the duo would win 4 more Grand Slam titles for doubles consecutively from 2009 Wimbledon to 2010 Roland Garros.

Venus and Serena Williams both ranked at Number one in the Women’s Tennis Association. At the French Open in 2002, the sisters bagged the positions 1 and 2 in the ranking, which is a first in the history of professional tennis that siblings took over the top two positions. At the French Open in 2010, the sisters are also tied on the top position for doubles and occupied top 1 and 2 positions for singles.

The duo also joined the Summer Olympics Games which led to four gold medals where the sisters took one each for the singles matches and three for doubles, which is the most that any player of tennis had taken home. The sisters had also completed the doubles’ Career Golden Slam two times.

Venus Williams was born in 1980 and a year older than her doubles partner, Serena Williams.
